Update from the shelter in Spain who are looking after this lovely girl; Last evening was spent with Coco and the horse shears cutting out masses of matted and infested fur. She was a good girl throughout the night and her foster mummy heard her eating and drinking lots!
Day 2......, a day at the vets! Lots of Coco s fur was stuck in large clumps to her skin that it was difficult for the vet to examine Coco, luckily the groomer was there and we decided a makeover was needed! Coco was so good throughout and was shorn, bathed and then examined.
Our vet thinks coco is about 18 months old she’s not sure how her ear was damaged so badly but it was painfully infected and she thinks there is something in there! Blood tests were taken.
We picked her up this evening ...Unfortunately Coco is extremely anaemic and although she wanted to operate to remove what's in her ear she can’t yet because of her low blood count, this was caused by the thousands of tics they removed from her, the vet had never seen so many on one dog! One patch on Coco’s body 2cm by 2cm they removed 15 tics. Her leishmania result is back on Thursday. Her stomach is very swollen with all the rubbish she has had to eat to stay alive. So she’s on antibiotics and our vet will sort out her ear when she is well enough.
Day3 Coco Update Just had a call from the vet to say they have Coco's blood test results back in double quick time and unfortunately Coco has tested positive for Leishmania. We are back to the vets tomorrow so she can start a course of injections to boost her immune system. That means a journey to the vets every 48 hours for the poor little girl.
The other problem we have is that until she is stronger Isabel the vet cannot operate on her ear and remove whatever's in there, as if this gorgeous girl hasn't gone through enough already in her short life.
She’s very alert and keeps examining her body which is really funny. She has a long way to go ,her skin will take a long time to heal and will be very costly but this little girl is so worth it.
